Hey guys, “Salut” ✌️
Today, I want to share a personal story.
It all started in March 2020, when France, like so many countries out there, went into covid-lockdown. I knew I was going to be stuck at home for a while, but I still wanted to keep on working on my videos. Took my laptop and camera with me and thought it was gonna be fine. But it wasn’t. I couldn’t access my precious kitchen workshop no more ! It bothered me very much as “Le Studio” is core to my work and to the identity of my videos.
At some point I thought : “if I can’t go to Le Studio, then Le Studio will have to come to me”. I found a visual alternative in the shape of a blue lab coat. Protective like a kitchen apron. Blue like a workshop overall. Perfect. I spiced it up with some Japanese Kanji on the back - “courage” - because I wanted it to represent the Grind, that life and work had to keep on going no matter what. I was happy with the result, and I wore it proudly in all my lockdown videos.
By the end of lockdown, as I came back to “Le Studio”, I didn’t need this blue coat anymore. A bit sad to let it go, but it wasn’t serving a purpose anymore. Unless I turned it into something else...
I had an idea : I had been craving for a personalised apron for a very long time. In the past I used to think that aprons were useless, but a few saucy pizza and floury bread series have proved me wrong. So, instead of trashing my lab coat, what about un-sewing, cutting and then re-sewing this coat back together into a new apron shape 🤩 ? Snip, Snip, Snip. This is exactly what I did. I am now the proud owner of a unique blue apron that once was broken and forged all over again like the sword in “The Lord of The Rings”. And I am happy again. I have been using it a lot and it rocks.
This is where it gets even better. No matter how much affection I hold for this apron full of history, using it over and over made me realise its flaws : The fabric could be thicker, the shape could be more comfortable, the straps could tie easier. I see potential for something here. I believe these improvements may be able to turn a good story into a great product.
Hopefully, you will hear about it again in the future. 🤞
Take care,“Salut”
